Longueteau 2014 Single Cask Confrérie du Rhum
A 2014 rum from the Longueteau distillery in Guadeloupe. This is a limited edition bottling that was distilled in March 2014. One of 389 bottles.
The Esperance distillery was founded by Louis-Philippe Henry Longueteau. He was working at the Sainte-Martine plantation at the time and recognized the opportunity to build a distillery in its sugar factory, which, like many others in Guadeloupe, was struggling with profitability issues. He later bought the Mon Repos distillery in the 1940s and bottled its first rum in the 1950s. Mon Repos was closed in the following decade, but rum was bottled under the Esperance name, as this brand was stronger. Financial difficulties led to the Mon Repos brand being weakened when the Longueteau family was forced to bottle a poor batch of rum in the 1980s. In the early 2000s, when the distillery was about to be sold, the father of the current owner, François Longueteau, went into considerable debt to keep it. Eager to gain complete control over their product, Longueteau converted the entire Sainte-Martine plantation to sugar cane cultivation and even purchased their own machinery to harvest it. This made Esperance known as the only farm distillery in Guadeloupe. The Longueteau brand has grown steadily since then, and the Esperance distillery also produces Karukera rum.
The Longueteau 2014 Single Cask Confrérie du Rhum is an exclusive special bottling from the traditional Longueteau distillery in Guadeloupe, created in close collaboration with the well-known Facebook community Confrérie du Rhum. This vintage rum impressively demonstrates the power and elegance of a pure agricole rum distilled from fresh sugar cane juice.
The nose is intense and multifaceted: fresh notes of sugar cane, green apple, and citrus fruits combine with vanilla, oak spice, and a hint of pepper. On the palate, it shows a balanced interplay between natural sweetness and distinctive wood structure – aromas of honey, caramel, and dried fruit meet roasted notes, cocoa, and a subtle hint of herbs. The texture is powerful and full-bodied, carried by the cask strength, which brings out all the nuances unfiltered. The finish is long, warm, and spicy, with mineral notes and an elegant dryness.
This limited edition single cask bottling combines Longueteau's signature style with the expertise of one of the world's largest rum communities – a rum that is a real highlight for collectors and connoisseurs of characterful rums alike.
